Welcome to the Edmonton Chapter of Fair Vote Canada.
We’re a non-partisan group working to fix a broken voting system so that every vote counts equally and every voice matters.
How did our democracy get this broken?
Right now, Alberta uses first-past-the-post, a voting system that:
- Rewards division
- Silences voters
- Produces distorted election results
- Concentrates power instead of sharing it
Do you think it’s fair when millions of votes change nothing?
Do you think this system reflects the will of the people?
We don’t.
Our election results reflect a voting system that hasn’t kept pace with the realities of modern democracy. So let’s do something about it!
Our democracy gives us fewer and fewer real choices.
While our health care and education systems are stretched to their breaking points….
While frustration and distrust rise so much so that some are calling for separation…
Is it any wonder people stop trusting politicians?

How do politicians keep getting away with this lack of accountability?
First-past-the-post creates a polarized, two-party tug-of-war.
Over the years, we’ve seen our political choices dwindle down and divide our province.
This system tells voters, “Your vote only matters if you vote the ‘right’ way.”
That’s not democracy — that’s control.
What if our voting system actually reflected reality?
This lack of choice fosters voter apathy, polarization, and a lack of trust in our government.
Voter turn out declines because people often feel forced to choose between the lesser of two evils.
We’re fighting for proportional representation (PR), a system where:
- Seats in government match the percentage of votes cast
- Every vote counts, no matter where you live
- Cooperation replaces constant crisis politics
- Voters are free to vote for something, not just against it
